About
Me

My biggest inspiration in life– within the arts and beyond, is the pursuit of joyfulness. I firmly believe that the expression of femininity is intrinsically tied to the experience of joy. In joyfulness there is power, to express joy in the face of danger is as strong an act of radical resistance as any. Be it through photos, prints, graphic designs, or drawings, all I hope for my work is that it will always communicate the importance of women, community, and memory. I want any onlooker, regardless of their gender identity, to feel empowered by what they see before them.

Nicole Gunderson is a multimedia visual artist who has dedicated much of her artistic career and pursuits to exploring the complexities of feminine gender identities and the idea of what it means to be a woman past, present, and future. Through primarily photography and printmaking, Gunderson aims to always evoke a sense of nostalgia, paying homage to female artist pioneers throughout history. She also works in graphic design, illustration, drawing, and bookmaking. Her artwork has been displayed in multiple exhibits in the Boyden Art Gallery in Maryland, on merchandise for many St. Mary’s College of Maryland sponsored events, in print material for Historic St. Mary’s City, and earned her the SMCM Art Department Travel/Study Award in 2023. Gunderson is currently based in Maryland, and has a B.A. in Art from St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
